Port Kembla Port Welcomes Planning Approval

The CEO of Port Kembla Port Corporation, Dom Figliomeni, today welcomed planning approval for the construction of a new $30 million cargo handling facility at the port.

The announcement by the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources, Craig Knowles, is in addition to the $14 million extension of the multi-purpose berth which is due for completion next month.

'Port Kembla Port Corporation welcomes today's announcement,' Mr Figliomeni said.

'This is the next step in bringing more ships and more trade to Port Kembla.'

Port Kembla is currently in commercial negotiations with the private sector for the development and management of the new berth and cargo handling facilities.

'This project will be developed jointly by the Port and industry.

'We will ensure shipping lines continue to be able to select the stevedore of their choice under any new management arrangements.

'The development provides an exciting opportunity for the Port Corporation and the Illawarra region', said Mr Figliomeni.
