Awards 2008

November was a big month for Port Kembla with the Port Corporation taking out two awards in as many days.

On Wednesday 12th November, Port Kembla Port Corporation was awarded the prestigious "Port of the Year Award for 2008".

The Lloyds List DCN Australian Shipping and Transport Awards recognised Port Kembla Port Corporation for work on the major infrastructure project to transform Port Kembla Port into Australia's leading car import facility.

Ports and Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi said the award was recognition of the work and commitment of many people.

"Work has been ongoing over the past three years to ensure we meet the tight deadline for the relocation of the NSW vehicle, general cargo and Darling Harbour container trade to Port Kembla," Mr Tripodi said.

This is the second time that Port Kembla has received this award, having previously won the award in 2000.

Continuing on with the winning theme, on Thursday 13th November the Corporation was presented with the Gold Award in the category of "Growing Prosperity across NSW" in the annual Premier’s Public Sector awards.

Again it was the work on the major Inner Harbour expansion project that was recognised in gaining this achievement.

Port Corporation CEO Dom Figliomeni was on hand to accept the latter of these awards and said "It was a good week for us, and both awards recognised the work and commitment of many people over the years".
