Port Kemblas Outer Harbour precinct was a hive of activity with the recent Maritime Community Day taking place on Saturday the 4th September.
The Port Kembla Port Corporation and NSW Maritime hosted the day following on from the success of a similar event in 2009.
The day provided an opportunity for the general public to check out the port precinct, learn about the maritime and military heritage of the area and discover some of the environmental initiatives taking place in the port.
Special presentations were given regarding boating and rock fishing safety, issues which are particularly important in the lead up to the boating season.
A highlight of the day was the chance for visitors to climb aboard the Royal Australian Naval Vessel "HMAS Sydney" which called at the port, especially for the event.
Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, the day attracted approximately 2000 visitors, who enjoyed the free activities attractions, displays and entertainment on offer.
