Each year the Port Kembla Port Corporation undertakes a program of community partnerships and initiatives supporting a range of organisations including environmental, cultural and sporting groups.

Recognising the significant role that the port plays in the wider regional area, the port sponsorship and donation program has been extended to cover not only those groups in the immediate location, but to also take in the wider Illawarra and Southern Highland regions.

Some of the projects supported in recent months:

Port Kembla Port Corporation is proud to continue its sponsorship of the Department of Education's "Southern Stars" event. As a segment sponsor in 2009, PKPC is proud to be involved in this major event showcasing the performing arts talents of over 2000 students from approximately 55 schools throughout the region.

Port Kembla Port Corporation has again been actively involved in supporting this years Young Achievement Australia Business Skills Program.

The Business Skills Program is Young Achievement Australia primary enterprise education program. It brings together senior secondary and tertiary students with advisers from business and industry. The program provides an authentic learning environment for a team of young people to build their skills, knowledge and experience by putting their ideas into action to establish, plan and operate a self directed business.

Under the program, fifteen Year 11 students from local schools including Smiths Hill High School, Keira High School and the Illawarra Christian School, have set up an enterprise known as "Fiyaworks".

Fiyaworks is working to design, produce, market and sell a range of T-shirts incorporating new and dynamic designs which cannot be found anywhere else.

PKPC’s Sustainability Officer, Trevor Brown has been working with the group, attending board meetings to oversee the running of the enterprise and provide valuable business advice.

"The business program assists the students the in developing leadership and teamwork skills," said Mr Brown.
