After an extensive tender process McConnell Dowell has been chosen as the successful tender for the construction of the new tug fleet base. The facility will be constructed to provide all weather protection and initially allow for the permanent berthing of four tugs with provision for a further two in the future.

In news on the Outer Harbour development, PKPC has responded to the Department of Planning (DOP) and other Government agencies on all the matters raised during the community consultation process which closed on 7 May 2010. The DOP is currently considering the PKPC request for development approval of the Outer Harbour.

A decision on the DA, together with development conditions, is expected within the coming weeks which will allow commencement of construction in the first quarter 2011.

In positive news, one major customer has already lodged a preliminary EA with the Department of Planning to establish facilities in the redeveloped Outer Harbour area and a number of other parties have expressed interest in the site.
